Using a Blog in the Classroom

Using a blog in our kindergarten classroom is a great option.

We will use our blog to showcase what we do in our class.

For example,
we will display pictures of what we are doing,
we will show some samples of student work,
and display special projects.

The blog will provide a forum for students and parents
to communicate with me.

  1. I teach kindergarten as well and I struggled with this as well. They are very limited on the skills that they have and to expect the students to use blogs is too much. I like your idea of having it a location to showcase work and keep parents informed. I thought of a similar idea for a blog in my classroom. But do you have many parents with internet access? That would be my biggest hurdle - parent involvement.

  2. Kristyln,
That is a concern of mine as well. But, I have found that most of my parents have access to the internet either at home or at the local library. In order to address students needs that do not have access to the internet, I have distributed printed copies of information, such as the districts winter literacy and math workbooks.

  3. I have suggested leaving computers on for parents to see our blog in the preschool setting. This might be more difficult in the kindergarten classes though because all of your parents don't pick up their children after school. Still it is an option for those parents that don't have internet access at home.
